Mile 2543.2 to 2571.8* for 28.6 PCT miles, but because of the Bannock Lakes Fire detour we actually hiked 19.5 miles plus 3.0 non PCT miles round trip to Holden Village (set up tent south of ball field then retrieved it after securing a room for the night). Elevation increase of approximately 5000 and decrease of approximately 4000. Hiking at 7:15 and into Holden Village at 4:15. Last night was hot for us. We had both vestibules open and were sweating. Contrastingly, the morning was chilly in the moist shade of the forest. Immediately out of camp we had a 4000 foot elevation gain to get to Cloudy Pass. The fire detour began just prior to Cloudy Pass at Suiattle Pass. Cloudy Pass was as gorgeous as ever. Although we are still in a big group no one camped beside us last night. The creek .1 miles north of our camp was dry and needing water the group continued north another couple of miles. Our camp was great; even had a pit toilet. Only downside was that Jerry had to hike back down trail .25 miles to get water for a dry camp. Some of the hikers in this large group are “Crouton”, Strap”, “Go Cowboy”, “Sheriff”, and “Top Notch”. We are tired with so many back to back strenuous days. Holden Village was great with a healthy buffet dinner that was all you can eat. Then they had an ice cream social which we took advantage of. I had a sundae and Jerry had a chocolate malt. A shower was the best as we were sticky from all our sweating combined with the high humidity over the past six days.
