Day 173 - 9/18/18

September 29, 2018

Mile 2407.2 to 2427.9 for 20.7 miles with an elevation increase of 4071 and decrease of 6206. Hiking at 7:15 we were in camp at 5:45 by Waptus river, elevation 3047. Our night was very cold and we woke to heavy frost. My sleeping bag was quite wet, yet Jerry’s was dry. We believe that not putting out some guy lines contributed to the fly resting on the body of the tent which I must have been up against. We dried the tent and my bag out when we ate lunch. The trail was quite rocky, but had great views of 3 Queens, Alta, 4 Brothers, Chickamin, Chimney Rock, Lemah and Summit Chief to name a few. We were treated by F-15 fighter jets flying by several times. There did not seem to be any flat ground today. It was either straight up or down. We are noticing that as the days get shorter and the nights get colder it is more difficult to hike as many miles each day.
