Mile 2078.8 to 2096.9 for 18.13 miles with an elevation gain of 3908 and loss of 1106 feet. Hiking at 7:00 and at Timberline Lodge at 3:00. We were fortunate to get a room at Timberline Lodge which sits at an elevation of 6015 feet at the base of Mt. Hood. When we woke there was a light frost in the grassy meadow by camp. We dressed warmly for the day. Since Milk Creek we have seen lots of Rhododendrons on the trail. We also notice how refreshing the smells of the moist soil and plants are. Smells and feels like home in so many ways. No dust or ash on the trail today and the dreaded sand march up to Timberline Lodge was way over exaggerated. The lodge offered free laundry. We usually have to pay to do our laundry. We have now resorted to scrubbing our feet with a rough, green pad that we use to clean our water filter! Cannot get the dirt off otherwise. Many hikers are camping nearby or staying in the lodge as we eagerly anticipate the famous breakfast buffet in the morning.
