Mile 2054.6 to 2078.8 for 24.2 miles. Our elevation gain was 2049 feet with a loss of 3166 feet. Camp was .25 off the PCT at Little Crater Lake campground, elevation of 3245 feet. Hiking at 7:30 and into camp at 6:05. We woke to a steady drizzle so delayed leaving. By 7:30 it was just a light mist. Once again we packed up a filthy, wet tent. Our first water source was at 10 miles and we were able to mostly get our tent dried out. Trail quality was great today and most of it was in big timber. No ash or dust either due to last nights rain. Early on I moved a couple of slow moving salamanders off the trail so they would not be trampled by hikers. Their color perfectly matched that of the trail. At one point, I tripped and went face first but was not hurt. Then Jerry filled our pot with water while the lighter was in it so we now did not have a way to light our stove for dinner. Our spare lighter had given up the ghost a few days ago. Just when we were looking at the prospect of eating tomorrows snacks for dinner and breakfast Julia from Switzerland appeared and gave us one of her spare lighters. She is hiking solo right now. Goes to show trail angels can appear in many forms. We enjoyed dinner with Julia, Jam, Milkshake and Squeeze before retiring for the night.
