Mile 1839.7 to 1866.0 for 26.3 miles with an elevation increase of 2733 and decrease of 2912. Hiking at 6:15 and into camp at 6:20. Camp was at the junction to Maidu lake at an elevation of 6203. Our morning was chilly but after the sun hit us temperatures were pleasant all day. The trail quality in Oregon has been wonderful so far. It was another day of paying attention to where our water sources would be. The first one was a cache about 9 miles from camp, then another 8 miles at Thielsen creek and finally at camp which was another 10 miles. Thielsen creek had the coldest water we have experienced on the trip thus far. The skies got progressively more smokey during the day, but not so bad as to burn our eyes. We were pleasantly surprised with trail magic at highway 138. This was provided by Magic Man who follows the trail similarly to Coppertone who we met on the Tahoe Rim Trail. After Pepsi’s and Jerry getting his fill of Twinkies we hiked on. It was really funny to discover that Grubbs is the gal we met between Carson and Donner Passes who had the giant Sierra Puff Ball mushrooms (she was going NOBO and we were going SOBO at the time). We also hiked with Tinkles and Princess and met Cowboy. Mt Thielsen looks like an interesting climb with a trail up to the summit block and then what appears to be some rope work. At camp Jerry hiked another 1.6 miles round trip to get water. Our next water will be at a cache in 12 miles. For dinner we had our lunches from yesterday. We had not eaten them because we got lunch at the Rim Village Cafe. We were also surprised to run into Squirt again who left Mazama Village a day ahead of us.
