Day 127- 8/3/18 (flip SOBO from Ashland, OR to Lone Pine, CA).
August 8, 2018
Mile 793.50 to 777.90 for 15.60 miles with an elevation increase of 5112 and decrease of 3453. We camped about 1.6 miles below Forester Pass at an elevation of 12,247 by a small alpine lake. Total PCT miles 1683.34. Started hiking at 6:20 and into camp at 4:30. We went over two high passes today. Glen Pass at an elevation of 11,946 and Forester Pass at 13,118. We have seen 3 different elevations for Forester Pass so not sure which is correct. We woke to a very wet tent from dew. Also had dew on my sleeping bag. Nevertheless, packed them wet and dried them out midday next to Bubbs Creek. After descending from Glen Pass we hiked through a lot of forest which was quite pleasant. The trail up and down Forester Pass was quite nice in contrast to Glen Pass which was quite rocky with big steps up and over boulders. These big steps are very hard on my knees. After descending Forester Pass we found a tent site by a small lake where we soaked our feet and enjoyed a sunny afternoon. Then this guy shows up who appears to be a member/leader of a guided group. Now mind you we are in a a huge basin with lots of tent sites. He promptly sits down within 15 feet of us and starts waving his whole group over. He was planning on putting 12 people within 3 feet of our tent even though there were only two small sites close to us that would fit one person tents. He did not speak to us. It was all quite rude. Thank goodness another leader of this group overrode his choice. In contrast many other hikers came by but were much more respectful and chose sites that provided all of us some privacy. We were so excited to each get a full dinner tonight. Today we ate all our snacks plus some that were leftover from yesterday. It has been hard feeling like our belly buttons are eating our backbones.
