Day 119 - 7/26/18 (flip SOBO from Ashland, OR to Lone Pine, CA).
July 27, 2018
A “zero” for us in Mammoth Lakes, CA. Had a nice breakfast then planned our next stretch which will be The Muir Trail Ranch where we will load our biggest resupply. In addition to resupplying food we also had new pole tips installed on our trekking poles. They had broken off some time ago. We also got new clothes. Jerry got new pants that fit and I got new shorts as mine were falling down without the packs waist belt to hold them up. I also switched from a water bladder to using the Platypus tubing that Jerry is using on Smart water bottles. This will give my pack more internal volume. To help with volume we also sent home some minor items. We are enthralled with the beauty of the thunder clouds each day. They are quite stunning. We have learned many things on the trail and one special thing is how to make great mud slurries. Take a pair of dirty legs and rub in mosquito repellent. Then when you have not shaved your legs in four months you can make some very strange designs in the slurry, LOL. We love some of the encouragement and support we are getting from friends and family. It really boosts our morale when we are faced with hard days on the trail.
