Day 98 - 7/5/18 (flip SOBO from Ashland, OR to Lone Pine, CA)

July 9, 2018

Mile 1241.5 to 1219.7 for 21.72 miles with an elevation increase of 5333 and decrease of 4257. Total PCT miles 1244.98. Hiking at 6:15 and into camp at 5:10 (A Tree spring, elevation 6550). Woke to the sounds of birds chirping, my alarm and the roar of numerous logging trucks buzzing by. With our water bladders full and an extra liter of water we opted to go 14 miles and get the next on trail water rather than going off trail for water. Took a leisurely break at the W Branch of Beartrap Creek before heading up the last 2000 feet of elevation before camp. It is always hard to do elevation gain at the end of a long day. My left knee that started hurting on the 6200 foot descent into Belden is still bothering me. These big miles and elevation drops are not helping it. We reacquainted with Sugarman, Packman and Wolf Shadow who we last saw in Kennedy Meadows. Also Sophie and James arrived at the A Tree Spring late in the evening as did Milkshake and crew.
