Day 96 - 7/3/18 (flip SOBO from Ashland, OR to Lone Pine, CA)
July 9, 2018
A “zero” for us; the last “zero was on day 82, 238 miles ago in Dunsmuir, CA. We both slept long and hard for about 14 hours. So glad to have this day off from hiking. We were surprised to find so few people in town on a holiday weekend where there is a big lake. No place was open for breakfast so we walked to a small store. Jerry got a Costco muffin and I got some dried fruit which did not sit well with my stomach. We both had V8’s. It seems strange to us that regular hours of operation is a foreign concept here. The lodge owner said he would be open for breakfast at 8 am which he was not. Did not open for hours. We had very little TP in the room and had to search for a vacant, unlocked room and confiscate what they had since no way to contact the resort staff! The towel rack fell off the wall when I went to hang my towel. It was hung into drywall without using Molly screws! Had dinner at the Lakeshore lodge and not sure they really wanted us there even though we were clean. We wanted to call a trail angel for a ride in the am back to the trail, but were told they did not allow calling from the WiFi. Staff was less than helpful. Waited in line behind teenagers using a pay phone and Jerry reached the trail angel who would pick us up at 6 am. Went back to where we were staying and saw some baseball on their TV and I played some of the best pinball in recent memory. I won many free games surprising some young boys who watched.
