Day 102 - 7/9/18 (flip SOBO from Ashland, OR to Lone Pine, CA).
July 10, 2018
Mile 1160.76 to 1153.38 for 7.38 miles and a resupply in Truckee. Total PCT miles 1307.79. Elevation gain today 803 and decrease of 1510. Hiking at 6:45 and to Donner Pass (Hwy 40) by 9:30. Walked about .5 miles on highway to the Donner Ski Resort for a bite to eat. They were not open yet but let us come in and have water and coffee until 11 when they would be ready to serve food. We got burgers and Jerry got 4 free Pepsi’s in lieu of the free beer they give to PCT hikers. On the way to Hwy 40 Jerry mentioned he was out of food. This has happened twice now in past week. I was bummed because the extra food I had I was saving for special times when I needed a mental uplift. I typically carry an extra day of snacks on each leg of the trip. Gave him some mango and apricots that Fawn had sent us and he replenished them in town. He will also carry more food from now on. We both are still losing weight if the fit of our clothes is any indicator. Decided to take Uber to town rather than hitch. We did laundry, showered, discussed next few boxes with Fawn, went grocery shopping, worked on Blog and ordered new shoes to be sent to Tuolumne Meadows. Had a nice dinner then repacked what we bought and repacked our packs. As usual when we resupply in town we have more food than we need. We got all of our resupply including fuel at the CVS pharmacy. Only thing unable to get was a replacement water bladder than suited Jerry so he will carry an extra water bottle. Heading out tomorrow for South Lake Tahoe. It feels strange to us that all NOBO hikers we have seen in past several days have hiked fewer total PCT miles than we have. May see them again when we flip bath north to Ashland. Recent photos of home remind us how much we miss our grandson and his mom and dad as well as our kitties.
