Day 100 - 7/7/18 (flip SOBO from Ashland, OR to Lone Pine, CA).
July 9, 2018
Mile 1195.4 to 1183.60 for 11.83 miles with elevation increase of 3045 and decrease of 1464. Hiking at 11:30 and into camp at 5:45 (by road bridge over Pass Creek), elevation of 6172. Total PCT miles 1278.58. There were so many hikers in Sierra City that the only cafe was swamped with hikers wanting breakfast when they opened at 8am. We had about an hour to get our order taken. We then supplemented our resupply box with the meager leavings available at the store and packed up. It was incredibly hot in town. We got a hitch back to the trail within 20” and were hiking by 11:30. Our only glitch was that our ride ran over part of Jerry’s pack and punctured his water bladder. Thank goodness it was not the side with our tent poles! We improvised for the day and tried to repair it with Tenacious tape when we got to camp. This did not work. We met “Whistler” from capital hill in Seattle and had a great chat. The trail was mostly big timber and open shoulders with good views. However, the day ended in clear cuts. We pitched our tent by the side of a paved road and endured cars whizzing by. It was great to soak our feet in Pass Creek which had a temperature like one would find if taking a cool bath.
