Day 86 - 6/23/18 (flip SOBO Ashland, OR to Lone Pine, CA)
June 25, 2018
Mile 1446.0 to 1424.5 for 21.51 miles. Camped at 2998.7 ft At Rock Creek. Elevation increase 2387 ft and decrease 4471 ft. Total PCT mile 1040.2. Began hiking at 7:20am after retaping our backs where abrasion has been a problem. Additionally we added foam inserts to the inside of Kathy’s pack waist belt. She has lost to much weight and belt is to big. (Woman’s small size). It was a very warm night and hot day, but had a good breeze most of the day and the light. The trail quality was quite rocky and overgrown. We made sure to “camel up” at the scarce water sources so as not to repeat our previous days dehydration. The trail crossed many dirt roads, clearcuts and occasionally had a narrow band of trees to give the illusion of a forest. Many NOBO hikers and backpackers as this was a Saturday. It feels like we’re back in the desert and the filth is similar. In to a spectacular camp at 5:15pm on a ledge above picturesque Rock Creek Bridge. We had lots of food so Kathy ate two of her homemade Ramon dinners while Jerry drank his remaining three liters of Kool Aide.
