Day 84 - 6/21/18 (flip SOBO from Ashland, OR to LonePine, CA)

June 25, 2018

Mile 1484.7 to 1463.9 for 20.77 miles with an elevation increase of 6829 and decrease of 5209. We camped at an elevation of 4208.3 (.2 miles before a fork of Deer Creek). Total PCT miles 1000.79! Started hiking at 7am and in camp at 5:15. It was a very warm night and another very hot day. Saw a few NOBO hikers. One was from Mazama, WA and had skipped from Kennedy Meadows to Belden. We thoroughly enjoyed the McCloud river and saw lots of butterflies. We also ran into some backcountry horsemen who were cutting away logs that had fallen on the trail. Trail quality was good most of the day and we had plenty of water sources. However, there was also a long stretch with poison oak and brush. When we got to camp a very friendly deer followed me up the trail and hung around for quite awhile. We had heard of hikers losing trekking pole and pack straps so we put the handles of our poles inside the tent and packs inside plastic bags in our vestibules. It was a banner day for us and our 4th 20 miler in a row (discounting days going into or out of towns).
