Day 83 - 6/20/18 (flip SOBO from Ashland, OR to Lone Pine, CA).
June 25, 2018
Mile 1501.2 to 1484.7 for 16.46 miles with an elevation increase of 5063 and decrease of 4606. Camped at Squaw Creek bridge which is at an elevation of 2593. Total PCT miles 980.02. Yesterday we added more padding/bulk to my waist belt as it was getting too big again. That extra padding worked well today. We got a ride back to the trailhead from trail angel Tony and were hiking by 10:20. Got into camp at 6:15. The trail today was primarily in big timber. Jerry struggled early but got better as the day progressed. I believe he was dehydrated from two days of diarrhea. Encountered a few NOBO hikers. One flipped from Tuolumne Meadows and hiking NOBO to Ashland then going back to finish the 140 miles he skipped. He had had enough of the snow, describing post holing to his waist. He also reported that a local in Tahoe said they had received 27 feet of snow in March. This jives with what we were told by a local from Tahoe when we were in Kennedy Meadows. The day was hot and muggy, making it had to get to sleep because we were sweating so much. Quality of the trail was good. Our tent site was precarious as we were pitched on the side of a cliff and it was quite sloped. We also only ate snacks for dinner due to the heat, but were able to rinse dirt off our legs and feet in the creek.
