Mile 1525.8 to 1507.2 for 18.60 miles with an elevation increase of 1410 and decrease of 5212. We camped at the E. Fork of Sulfur Creek at an elevation of 2698. Total PCT miles 957.56. Again hiking at 7am and into camp at 3:25. We contemplated going another 6 miles to I-5 where we could hitch into Dunsmuir but decided against it. It was a cool day that only warmed as we descended. Mostly overcast for us and clouds were accumulating over the climbing route on Mt. Shasta. It felt very muggy today and the air seemed to thicken as we descended. Saw several PCT hikers and spoke with some who made it through the Sierras. One in particular was in Kennedy Meadows on 4/22 (a month before us). He did not have post holing issues but said it was extremely cold (12 degrees F.) and they were hiking by 3 am. Another hiker told us his feet are suffering after being constantly wet for so long. The thing that struck me about these hikers is how emancipated they all looked. Everyone through hiking thus far has lost a lot of weight. We did see a deer and a rattlesnake today. The trail was in good shape; mostly on high ridges and shoulders with spectacular views of Mt. Shasta and Castle Crags. Castle Crags has lots of big walls and towers that I imagine strong rock climbers would drool over. Lots of water was available today after the first eight miles.
