Day 78 - 6/15/18 (flip SOBO Ashland, OR to Lone Pine, CA)
June 19, 2018
Mile 1566.1 to 1545.9 for 20.2 miles. Elevation gain of 2585 and loss of 2225. Total PCT miles 918.82. Camped at Chilcoot creek at an elevation of 6653.2. Hiking at 7am in cool temps. We both marvel at the lack of wildlife on the trail since leaving the desert. We ran into “Shorts” who we had not seen since the trail heading toward Tehachapi and a water cache at mile 549. It was great to catch up. He skipped the Sierras and resumed NOBO at Echo Lake ( S. Lake Tahoe). We also ran into “Crush” who we had not seen since Hiker Town. He also flipped from Lone Pine and resumed NOBO from Truckee, CA then will go back to hike the Sierras. Saw lots of hikers going NOBO; many were section hiking. The trail was very rocky and hard on our feet today. Jerry now estimates he has lost 50#! The 36” waist pants he bought in Kennedy Meadows is now loose. I am unable to stomach almond butter any longer. It is what I was eating when I was sick and just the mention of it makes me want to puke. However, I forced it down today and will toss it in Dunsmuir. Jerry’s knee has been doing great without tape.
