Day 68 - 6/5/18 (flip SOBO Ashland, OR to Lone Pine, CA)

June 12, 2018

Mile 1687.5 to 1670.7 for 16.8 miles with elevation increase of 2288 and decrease of 3527. Camped at elevation of 4740. Total PCT miles 793.87. Left camp at 7:00 with moderate condensation on our tent. We packed it wet so could get hiking and dried it out at lunchtime, but packing it wet made it a muddy mess. Today we got into camp at 3:25. Water at camp 1/10 mile off trail which was a small spring 1/2 inch deep, but also had a small pipe coming out of it with a steady flow. Was able to wet my bandana and wipe the dirt off my face, legs and feet. Was grateful for the water and disappointed it was not deeper so could do a better job of cleaning up. The last 5 miles of the trail was through a recent burn so got ash and dirt all over us. Being constantly dirty is mentally fatiguing me. The trail today was on a high ridge most of the day with stunning views. Water was limited but adequate. Encountered 2 groups section hiking Seiad Valley to Canada, one hiker going NOBO from Etna, CA to WA border and one who skipped the Sierras and going NOBO from Sierra City, CA to Canada. Had a couple of bullet hard snow patches to negotiate today, but they were relatively small. Snow is lingering on north facing slopes. Jerry drank plenty of kook-aid today.
