Finally hiking again. Mile 1719.3 to 1703.9 for 15.38 miles with elevation gain of 3582 and decrease of 2006. Ate breakfast in Ashland, returned rental car and got cab to trailhead. Cab dropped us at northbound trail so walked 1/2 mile of road to southbound trail. Started hiking at 9:15 and were in camp by 5:15. Camp was at elevation of 5950 ( W branch of Long John Creek). Total PCT miles 760.47. Day started very warm and cooled slightly as we gained elevation. Most of the day was through big timber or open meadows. Trail was beautiful and we noticed how much softer under foot it was than in southern CA. At about 5 miles a local who has the PCT running through his property has put a water faucet and picnic table for hikers to use. It was lovely. We paralleled the Mt. Ashland road for several miles and had numerous views of Mt Shasta all day. Lots of locals out hiking on this gorgeous Sunday. We met Lucas and Morgan who are hiking south to the CA border then back north to hike OR and WA. Made several adjustments to the lumbar pads on my pack.
