Mile 741.69 to 745.30 plus 1.8 non PCT miles getting to the Last Chance Meadow campground so we could get a hitch into Lone Pine or Bishop. Got 3.64 PCT miles in today. I am still sick and even though short mileage day it was tough. Elevation increase 928 and decrease 107 plus non PCT elevation changes. Our tent was very wet this morning from condensation so did not start hiking until 8:30 so we could dry the tent. We are not pleased that condensation came through the fly and onto the body of the tent as well as inside at our feet. The tent has two mesh doors that are open to ambient air all night and the vestibules do not come to ground so there should be plenty of ventilation. After about an hour we got a ride from a woman into Lone Pine. It is interesting that most of our hitches are from women by themselves. We ran into many PCT hikers in Lone Pine including Sugar and Garbage Disposal. Trying to hitch from Lone Pine to Bishop was disheartening and when we were about to give up a very nice woman picked us up. Her husband is very passionate about airplanes and has an old Beech Stagger Wing tail number N90 in parts in their garage.
We got to Enterprise Rental Car in Bishop CA. Just before it closed. Two other groups of PCT hikers were also getting cars! We then went to dinner at the Mamouth Rambler Brewery and found a dozen PCT hikers including Baloo, MatGeo and Sage! We hadn’t seen them since Tehachapi. They had made it past Trail Pass where we left the PCT, and hiked another 40 miles and left the PCT in deep snow at Kearsarge Pass. We both will leave Bishop on Friday. We need to wait for Kathy’s pack from REI. We’re flipping north to Ashland while they are unsure of their plans. Later we booked a room at Travelodge, Showered!!! and slept in a big Bed! As we hike south hope to encounter lots of people we have already met along the trail.
