Up at 5am and hiking by 6:15 in cool temperatures. Hiked mile 471.34 to mile 485.61. At mile 478.35 we came to the San Francisquito Hwy. “Loaner” a volunteer from Casa De Luna was there and gave us a ride to Casa De Luna. We got a brief tour and decided to go to the local cafe and then head back out on the trail. We did pick up our 2018 PCT bandanas. Jerry was disappointed that it was so California centric (very few locations in WA listed). Jerry had 3 lemonades, 2 Coke’s and bacon and eggs. I had a protein breakfast smoothie, 1.5 lemonades and finished Jerry’s hash browns. Walked 1.5 miles on the high speed highway to get to the Green Valley Fire Department where we filled up with water in prep for a dry camp. Temperatures were very hot with minimal breeze. We only planned to hike an additional 3-5 miles but no tent sites could be found. Saw 2 rattlesnakes both of which rattled vigorously. Jerry was not so oblivious this time. Camped close to the Lake Hughes Hwy. at elevation of 3019. A hard day for both of us. Craving anything cold. It was so hot we ate our lunch for dinner so we did not need to fire up the stove. Casa De Luna underwhelmed us.
