Got a late start due to tough day yesterday. Started hiking at 7:50 am. Mile 383.87 to 406.69. Elevation gain approximately 3K and decrease approximately 2K. Today we encountered the “endangered species” detour. The detour required a several mile walk on a high speed highway with narrow shoulders. We happened to start walking on the highway when 2 women who had camped near us last night offered us a ride around the detour and back to the trail. Shortly after we re-entered the trail we got trail magic in the form of fresh oranges from a local farm. Guy and Drift hiked with us most of the day and we ran into Matt and Nat Geo at the Sulfur Creek crossing where we all were getting water for our dry camp that night. Again we camped surrounded by Boy Scouts. Camp was at 5200 feet elevation.
