Hiked mile 298.51 to 316.17. It had been a very cold night. Slightly warmer than our previous night at 42 degrees in the tent; however, we were out hiking by 6:15. The trail went up and down all day and was narrow with soft shoulders most of the day. Early on Jerry stepped off the trail when it went under a bush. I helped pull him back onto the trail as his feet were in air. Unfortunately he broke a trekking pole. Our friend Dawn who is sending resupply boxes is sending a replacement part to Aqua Dulce. We stopped at the Deep Creek Hot Springs for lunch. There was a lot of nudity and partying so we found a quiet shady spot up creek to cool off and eat. As we were headed toward a tent siteJerry almost stepped on a tightly coiled rattlesnake that did not warn us. This freaked me out as I had just encouraged another snake to exit the trail. We believe the rattlesnake was sleeping. I have noticed hiker hunger has set in and am no longer giving Jerry part of my meals. Jerry states he was born with hiker hunger. Deep Creek is in incredibly beautiful so it is disappointing that there was so much tagging and graffiti on the rocks between the hot springs and the dam. Our camp was a dry one.
