A “nearo” for us only hiking from mile 262.36 to 266.1 on the PCT. We had a very windy night. The screened mesh doors on our tent allowed very fine dirt to blow in throughout the night even with both vestibules closed. We had about a half inch of dirt covering our packs when we woke. Both packs were in the vestibule. Jerry’s shoes were filled with dirt and all water bottles outside the tent froze. We were pleased to have a Hilleberg tent. One hiker we encountered said his tent blew over with him in it! We were fortunate when we got to Hwy 18 when a van dropping off hikers at the trailhead offered to give us a ride to the WorldMark resort. The drivers name was Trout and he starts the PCT in 3 days. WorldMark also had our room ready and let us in at 9am. Normal check in is 4pm. Neither of us can recall ever being this dirty. I cannot recall a time when Jerry beat me to the shower, but he did this day. We started washing everything including packs, tent, pads, stuff sacks etc. In the afternoon we had a great meal at the local Sizzler. Also ran into “Sunshine” from Sweden who is resting a sore knee after a 35 mile day. Jerry noted his shoes are already worn out. We have the same brand and model of shoe. Mine are ok still. Hikers typically get 500 miles from a pair of shoes so it is disappointing that he needs to replace his so soon.
