Day 16 - 4/14/18

April 17, 2018

Left the White River Preserve at 6 am. Back on the PCT at 6:30. Mile 218.50 to mile 232.20 with approximately 2K elevation gain. Camped off trail close to one of the Mission Creek crossings. Jerry did some good old bushwhacking to find a spot with shade. Early in the day we met PCT celebrity “Darwin” who is very nice and modest. This was a tough day for Jerry and I was struggling with his pace. Reflecting on this I realized that there is a lot of macho competiveness on the trail and it was feeding on my own competitive nature. I’ve let that go because we are on this journey to enjoy and hike our own hike. We are not racing anyone! Such a relief to remember this.
