3/30/18 left monument about 7:45. Hiked 15.36 miles to Hauser Creek crossing. A dry camp so we trailhead with 13 liters ofwater between us. Temps started at 35 need in mid 90’s. By mid morning everyone was seeking shade which was very scarce. Encountered large rattle snake on the inside corner of a switchback. No way to go around. We quickly ran past it. Body diameter of my wrist! Snake was orange striped.
Day 2 3/31/18 Mile 26.16 Boulder Oak Camground. Day slightly cooler. Got lunch and showers at Lake Morena. Left Hauser Creek crossing at 7:30; arrived at Boulder Oak campground at 4pm. Trail angel had beer, pop, P and B sandwiches, tangerines picked off his tree this morning as well as other goodies. Saw cute cotton tail bunnies on trail. Elevation gain about 1500 ft. Yesterday we gained and lost about 1000 feet. Our breaks consist of getting shoes and socks off to cool them down.
